APPRENTICE COURSE

HoofTalk offers an intensive four-week training program where aspiring farriers interested in HoofTalk techniques have the opportunity to learn the profession from Bergy himself as well as other certified HoofTalk instructors. During this time, not only will students learn how to properly trim and shoe a horse, they will also learn how to evaluate the entire horse from head to hoof. There is an emphasis on trimming techniques unique to HoofTalk, such as the utilization of the arc of motion to determine the side-to-side balance of the hoof and the application of our specific mathematical formula for establishing front-to-back positioning. Our trainees also learn the best way to shoe a horse naturally, including when and how much to relieve the shoe for elasticity, if necessary. This course, which is 85% hands-on and 15% classroom, is geared towards individuals at the beginner level; it is not for professional farriers. Depending on the individual student's situation, the four weeks may be spaced out (although they must be completed within a year).
